About Zebras
Zebras are single-hoofed animals that are native to Africa. Zebras are very closely related to horses and donkeys.The most prominent feature of zebras is the bold patterns on their coats. Zebras are generally thought to have white coats with black or brown stripes. It is believed that the zebra's stripes work like camouflage.
When zebras stand together, it is harder for predators to determine how many zebras are in the group.
Each zebra's stripes are unique. No two zebras have the same stripe pattern.
Zebras live in family groups led by a stallion, with several mares and offspring. Family groups (known as harems) sometimes get together to form loosely associated herds.
Known predators of zebras include lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas. When danger approaches, the stallion will alert the others with a high-pitched snort.
Zebras eat mostly grass, leaves and twigs.
Female zebras carry their young for a gestation period of 12 to 14 months. Baby zebras are called foals.
Zebras will have a lifespan of around 25 years.
About Deer
Deer are identified by their antlers, long bodies and necks, slender legs and small tails.
Deer are found all over the world, with the exception of Australia and Antarctica. Deer are found in many different ecosystems. They live in wetlands, deciduous forests, grasslands, rain forests, arid scrublands and mountains. Deer are very social and travel in groups called herds. The herd is often led by a dominant male.
Most deer are active throughout the day, though their most active times are during sunrise and dusk. They spend their days foraging for food. Deer are herbivores; they only eat vegetation. For the most part, a deer's diet consists of grass, small shrubs and leaves.
Deer carry their young for a gestation period of 6-7 months. Deer usually only have one to three young at a time and these young are called fawns. Some of the large deer babies are also called calves. Overall, most deer live 11 to 12 years.
